Week Two.
January 13th - 20th January 13th is finally upon us. The endless process we have been through to get to this point... I'm finally here on my first day of class at the National University of Singapore. In all honesty, not until the end of the week I didn't have my modules all together to make me feel as if I were ready to take on the semester but I still took my first-week head on! Going into my lecture halls and classrooms I felt a sense of excitement and anxiousness as I didn't know what to expect from one of the top universities in the world. I come to find out it was just as intense as I expected. In my module FIN3102A (Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management) we went through five chapters in the first class and according to the syllabus were expected to go through three to five chapters a week... I shouldn't have expected any less from NUS haha! Although the lecturers and professors go though material fast it wasn't too hard to keep up as long as I paid attention. Having started the semester I still didn't have all of my required modules secured into my schedule. So for the rest of the week, all that was on my mind was; modules, module registration; add/drop modules, appeal for modules, tutorials/labs registration, add/drop tutorials/labs, and etc. It was so stressful it was actually difficult for me to commit to any plans even weeks ahead because I felt so uneasy not knowing my workload for the semester. Luckily after many rejected appeals, I was soon accepted into modules BSP 2005 (Asian Business Environments) and HY2260 (History and Pop Culture) that transfers over to the University of Hawaii at Manoa as full credit. Other than trying to figure out how to get my life together at NUS I met my NUS Exchange Buddy, David Lau over lunch. Although he and I are two completely different majors him being a nursing major and myself a business major, we were still able to connect over our interest in traveling and food. On Saturday afternoon I auditioned for the International Baptist Church's worship team to get more connected to the church during my stay here in Singapore and I got in! Throughout the rest of the week, my friends and I spent time going to new malls, having jam sessions, eating out at new restaurants, and planning our trip to Taiwan at the end of February! |
