Week Five.
February 3rd - 10th It's the start of a new week! Finally got a hang of where my modules were being held, consistently being on top of my studies and still having a bunch of fun. During the beginning of the week, we all spontaneously bought bus tickets to Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia for the weekend and an Airbnb for us to live. So with that trip in mind, all I was focused on was getting all of my work done as soon as possible to I wouldn't have to stress out during the trip. I did my assignments, took notes for an interview I have next week and did my discussions for class next thing I knew it I was on a bus to Malaysia! We split into two groups because of time conflicts with academic schedules. We (first group) took a bus ride from and back to Singapore was about $40.40 SGD which would be around $30 USD! It was expected to be a 4-5 hour bus ride according to the website but ended up becoming a 7-hour bus ride with a few pit stops to Kuala Lumpur! Once I and two of my friends got to KL at around 2 AM, we took a grab to our Airbnb which was extremely beautiful considering we only paid $40 SGD each for a 3-night stay. The next morning we went out to lunch and I had the best meal I have had this whole study abroad! It was Curry Pork Rib Noodle, the flavor of the broth was so delicious, the meat was so tender and it was so filling only for $4 USD. (I was raving about it the whole trip.) Next, we went to Fahrenheit 88 a mall we heard had the biggest Sephora (requested by the girls) that we wanted to check out. Unfortunately the store wasn't completely made yet but we still yet had a great time exploring Fahrenheit 88, the Pavilion and took an hour Grab to an outlet store far out from the city. We bought really affordable clothes and card games for all of us to play when the rest of us arrived. When we were heading home for the day we got word from the second group that they missed their bus for 6:30 and had to pay an extra $30 SGD for a bus ticket at 9:30. The group I was part of was a bit upset because we had to stay awake to bring them up to the Airbnb when they arrived. So we ordered dinner, played Monopoly Deal, Uno Flip and later ordered midnight snacks from Mcdonald's. Sometime during that time, we all got news of the Novel Corona Virus alert to code Orange making our University respond by not having any face to face classes with a class over 50 students. So when we get back to NUS next week I would only have one face-to-face module on Tuesday but had to keep up with online lectures. Once they arrived we were all sleep-deprived and accidentally stated a pillow fight until we were all too tired to continue. The next morning we all went to a famous Naski Lemak restaurant in KL called Nasi Lemak Wanjo KG. Baru. Naki Lemak is a Malay fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. It is also considered the national dish of Malaysia. My meal of naski lemak, mango juice, and ice cream was only $4 USD total! After lunch, we went to two other malls to exchange cash, and shop till we dropped. Afterwards we went to the KL Tower Observatory that over looked the the whole city! We ended up eating dinner at the Kuala Lumpur City Center, Din Tai Fung and took pictures in front of the famous Twin Towers of Malaysia. Once we got home we all played card games and ordered Mcdonalds and for the first time all hung out past 11 PM since we were all finally in the same place and none of us had to take a shuttle back to their dorms. On our last day since I was raving so much about my first meal, we all went back to Fahrenheit 88 and the Pavilion to eat lunch and basically eat at much as we could within the 4 hours myself and the rest of the first group had before we had to leave. We tried out croissant taiyaki's, baked cheese tarts, Japanese cheese factory ice cream, and smoothies. Once it hit 4:30 the first group that arrived had to go back to Singapore. Overall Malaysia was a great place to travel! There were so many clothing stores, food, and drinks. My favorite part was how affordable everything was, it made traveling from place to place, ordering delivery and our meals so easy to do and buy. Malaysia treated us so well, I can't wait to hopefully travel back there sometime during the next few months. |
